Prevention is the best solution. Try to minimise any contact and spreading of the infection on your farm on your clothes, footwear or hands. Clean overalls and footwear must be worn when entering poultry farms and should be removed and either cleansed and disinfected, laundered or disposed of afterwards.
Feed bins, hoppers and feeding equipment must be cleaned and maintained as regularly as possible.
Have pressure washers, brushes, hoses, water and approved disinfectant agents available at all times. Make sure they are used to clean vehicles, equipment and boots.
Never re-enter your main buildings after dealing with isolated stock unless you have washed and changed into clean overalls and boots.
Keep farm access routes, parking areas, yards and storage facilities clean and tidy and well maintained. This helps avoid wild birds and animals entering buildings and stores.
Keep isolation buildings near possible to the farm entrance and ensure buildings are in good repair to prevent vermin from getting in and spreading diseases.
Minimise contact between your poultry and wild birds and prevent the accumulation of standing water. Maintain buildings and ensure wild birds do not roost in them.
